Justice Geoffrey Morawetz, a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, has been appointed as chief justice of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, succeeding Chief Justice Heather Smith, who retires June 30 after more than 36 years of service as a judge.
Janet Fuhrer, a partner at Ridout & Maybee LLP in Ottawa, has been appointed as a judge of the Federal Court and a judge ex officio of the Federal Court of Appeal. Fuhrer replaces Justice Anne Mactavish, who was elevated to the Federal Court of Appeal on June 11.
