The Ontario government has announced the appointment of four new judges to the Ontario Court of Justice.

The newly appointed judges are Adam Sean Jeremy Campbell, Gregory William McGivern, IIana Lauren Mizel, and Daniel Keyworth Topp. Chief Justice Sharon Nicklas assigned them to Windsor.

Justice Campbell brings over two decades of legal experience to the bench. Called to the bar in 2003, he served as a criminal defence lawyer before joining the Ministry of the Attorney General as an assistant crown attorney. For 18 years, he prosecuted complex cases, including homicides, in both English and French. Justice Campbell also specialized in asset forfeiture through the Restraint and Forfeiture Office, advising police and crown attorneys.

He was also vice-chair of the board of directors and chair of the governance committee of Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario, where he assisted with fundraising events and promoted the organization’s mission and values in the community.

Justice McGivern specializes in criminal, family, and child protection law. After working in private practice, he joined O’Brien Sulman McGivern in 2016. Justice McGivern served as a criminal court liaison for the Kent Law Association and a defence counsel representative for the Chatham Criminal Case Management Committee.

Justice Mizel called to the bar in 2010, has served as a prosecutor in several regions, including Windsor-Essex County. She has prosecuted complex cases and taught criminal law at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law for over a decade. Justice Mizel has also supervised legal programs with Pro Bono Students Canada and volunteered as a Gale Cup Moot coach. Her community involvement includes serving on boards such as the Latchkey Child Care and Learning Centre and the ARCH Disability Law Centre.

Justice Daniel Keyworth Topp, called to the bar in 2002, has practised criminal law for over 20 years as a sole practitioner. He started his legal career at Sutts Strosberg Law Firm and Ducharme Fox LLP.

Justice Topp has served as a guest speaker for Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education (PRIDE) training sessions for adoptive parents and as a member of the Windsor-Essex Ontario Justice Education Network Committee.
