Mark Giavedoni, a partner at Gowling WLG, will serve as president of the Hamilton Law Association beginning May 30.
Giavedoni has been deeply involved with the HLA since 2006. He was a trustee and member of its executive committee before being appointed secretary-treasurer and, most recently, vice president. He has also chaired the association’s real estate and CPD subcommittees, and he was vice chairman of its corporate and commercial subcommittee.
“It’s an honour to serve as president of the Hamilton Law Association,” Giavedoni said in a statement. “As local law associations go, the HLA is one of the biggest and the best, with an impeccable reputation. The energy and enthusiasm of so many of our peers has made the organization the success it is today, and I look forward to continuing that legacy in the years ahead.”
Giavedoni is a certified specialist in real estate law, as designated by the Law Society of Ontario. His focus is on all aspects of real property transitions, including title repairs, condominium advice, leasing, financing, project structure and development, dispute prevention and resolution. He frequently advises municipalities, universities, school boards, utilities and other organizations on complex matters.
In 2013, he joined Hamilton, Ont.-based law firm ESB Lawyers LLP, which then merged with Gowling WLG in January 2019.
“Mark’s new role is a testament to his commitment to the legal community and his profession,” said Louis Frapporti, managing partner of Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office. “He will serve as a strong voice for lawyers across the city and will be an excellent representative for our firm as we continue to help Hamilton businesses expand their footprint — both locally and globally.”
Incorporated in 1879, the Hamilton Law Association is one of the oldest county and district law associations in Ontario. It currently has around 1,040 members and has one of the highest rates of participation among the province’s county law associations.
