Aileen Page appointed president and CEO of Legal Aid Ontario

Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) has appointed Aileen Page as its new president and chief executive officer.

Page, currently LAO’s vice president of strategy and public affairs, will assume her new role on February 24.

Page brings experience from both legal practice and executive leadership to her new role. A graduate of the University of Toronto and holder of a juris doctor from Georgia State University, she is licensed to practise law in Ontario and Georgia. Her legal career began in the United States in 1996, where she worked as an assistant district attorney, prosecuting felony cases in urban and rural settings. She later practised as a civil litigator in state and federal courts. She also served as a magistrate judge, presiding over criminal and civil matters, including bail and preliminary hearings.

Upon returning to Ontario, Page became a senior policy advisor to two attorneys general before joining LAO in 2012. At LAO, she held several senior roles, including senior counsel in the general counsel office, director of litigation and regulatory affairs, and chief risk officer. In her most recent role as vice president of strategy and public affairs, Page oversaw government and stakeholder relations, policy, business intelligence, communications, corporate planning, and reporting. She also played a central role in creating LAO’s first self-promulgated regulatory regime that supports the Legal Aid Services Act 2020.

In a statement, Steve Pengelly, chair of Legal Aid Ontario, highlighted Page’s qualifications. “Aileen is a thoughtful, driven and compassionate leader who is dedicated to the people we serve at Legal Aid Ontario. Her depth of experience and record of delivering results will play an essential role in Legal Aid Ontario continuing to achieve its mandate to provide high-quality legal aid services to low-income clients while increasing efficiency and ensuring our long-term sustainability," Pengelly said.
